General Info
Hello, I'm Rosemary but go by Rosie. My sign name is "flower", and I use the pronouns they/them. I am a keen social justice activist, particularly around disability rights (something which affects me personally); using an intersectional lens to inform everything I do.
Before I began my PGDip BSL/English Interpreter degree, I worked in the Health and Social Care sector for almost 10 years. I was a Support Worker, then a Manager, working with adults who had brain injuries and other profound disabilities. I then worked for a Deaf charity in Leeds, as a Specialist Enablement Assessor (Complex Cases) supporting Deaf, Deaf-blind, and Visually Impaired people. All of this has given me a wealth of experience/knowledge in this field and has enabled me to apply this to my current work as a BSL/English Interpreter.
I currently work face-to-face and online, in the following areas:
- Health/Medical
- Social Care services (children and adults)
- Education - schools, colleges, and higher education settings
- Workplace settings and specialist employment-seeking support settings
- General community settings - such as grassroots activism/third-sector charities
- Events/Festivals (talks and activities but not music interpreting)
- Small conference settings and training events
- Lower-level legal settings, such as solicitor appointments, out-of-court sessions, probation meetings, and tribunal hearings.
